Meet the Thigh Contouring Team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is staffed by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Tongchun Mao, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site and performs both of the operations compared here. A comparison of this kind also involves the other three: the surgical view of a thigh that has already been operated on or a weight that is still changing, the assessment of the skin and the scars, and the dermatological care of skin that heals unusually.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Aesthetic surgery of the thigh and body · lift and liposuction · the skin-or-fat decision

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

His part of this decision is the examination, and it is deliberately unhurried. He assesses how the inner thigh skin behaves when it is lifted rather than how full the thigh looks, because that single finding separates the two operations more reliably than any measurement of volume. Where skin quality is good he will say that fat removal is the honest operation and a lift is not; where the skin has lost its elasticity after weight loss he will say the opposite, and describe the scar that removing skin requires. He regards a plan that is deferred until weight has been stable for some months as one that worked.

Clinical focus

  • Thigh lift (thighplasty), including the inner thigh and the groin crease
  • Thigh and lower-limb liposuction, including staged treatment of more than one zone
  • Combined lift and liposuction, and the judgement of when combining raises risk
  • Body contouring after major weight loss, including planning around stability
  • Revision of a thigh contour that a first operation did not settle

Skin or fat, not better or worse

One operation removes skin along with the fat and the other removes fat alone and leaves the skin to retract. Neither is the stronger version of the other, and the examination finding that separates them is how the skin behaves when it is lifted, not how much fat is present.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

On this site he is the second opinion for a thigh that has already been operated on, and for the patient whose weight is still changing, where the useful advice is often to wait rather than to operate.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · scars and skin quality

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

She assesses skin quality before a thigh plan is fixed, and she is the person patients see afterwards if a scar is thickening or a contour has developed a dip. Her view is that the scar conversation belongs before the operation rather than after it, because the position and the length of the incision are chosen in advance.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · assessment and complication management

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this team he assesses the skin conditions that change a thigh plan — a longstanding rash, a healed ulcer, skin damaged by previous surgery — and he manages a wound or a delayed healing problem if one occurs.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

The finding comes before the operation

Arrange an assessment. We will examine how your thigh skin behaves when it is lifted, explain what each operation can and cannot change for it, and say plainly when neither is the right answer.
